🛤️ Course Analysis and Difficulty
The Ttukseom Hangang Park course is legendary among Korean runners for being exceptionally flat.
Terrain: 100% paved asphalt/urethane. No significant inclines or hills.
Difficulty: 1/5 (Beginner Friendly).
Strategy: Because the course follows the river, wind resistance can be a factor. If you are aiming for a PB (Personal Best), try to stay within a “pack” of runners to minimize wind drag.
Analysis: The course offers a “there and back” loop. The turnaround points are clearly marked, and water stations are located every 2.5km to 5km.
📈 Historical Performance & Completion Rates
Based on data from the previous three editions:
Completion Rate: Over 95% of participants successfully finish within the time limit.
Average 10km Time: 55–65 minutes for males, 60–75 minutes for females.
Historical Context: The race started as a small community event but has grown to over 5,000 participants. It is known for its efficient organization and timely start, making it a favorite for “record hunters.”
🏛️ History of the Korea Open Race
The Korea Open Race was founded by Good People (NGO) and Culture Run to create a race that combines philanthropy with athletics. A portion of the proceeds is often donated to support marginalized communities, giving your run a deeper purpose. Since its inception, the race has moved its venue to Ttukseom to provide a safer and more spacious environment for the growing number of participants.
📍 How to Get to the Venue
The race takes place at Ttukseom Hangang Park Waterfront Stage.
Subway: Take Line 7 to Jayang (Ttukseom Resort) Station, Exit 2 or 3. The assembly area is right outside the exit.
Bus: Lines 2014, 2221, 2415, 4212 (Get off at Jayang Station/Ttukseom Hangang Park).
Parking: While parking is available at the park, it is highly discouraged on race day due to extreme congestion. Using public transport is strongly recommended.
🍽️ Nearby Attractions and Restaurants
After the race, replenish your energy at these local favorites in the nearby Konkuk University (Kundaegul) or Seongsu-dong areas:
🍖 Songrim Sikdang (송림식당): Famous for its “Bulbaek” (Bulgogi Rice), a favorite for marathoners needing a hearty meal.
🍜 Geon-dae Lamb Skewer Alley: A great place to enjoy high-protein lamb skewers and Chinese-style noodles.
☕ Seongsu-dong Cafe Street: Visit “Cafe Onion” or “Daelim Changgo” for high-quality coffee and pastries in a trendy industrial setting.
💡 Pro-Tips
Hydration: Don’t skip the water stations. Even if it’s cold in March, the dry Seoul air can dehydrate you quickly.
Pacing: The first 2km are crowded. Don’t zigzag; stay patient and find your rhythm after the first water station.
Weather: March in Seoul can range from 2°C to 12°C. Wear layers that you can easily discard or tuck away.
